Andrés Fernández is a highly accomplished business executive currently serving as the CEO of CEBAR, the largest agricultural loan structuring company in Colombia. Under his leadership, CEBAR has undergone a significant transformation, evolving into a fintech and insuretech company. With a workforce of 110 employees and an additional 200 subcontracted staff, Mr. Fernandez has successfully navigated the company’s transition, leveraging technology to enhance its financial and insurance services within the agricultural sector.
Previously, at Front Street Capital S.A.S., a multinational investment management company, Mr. Fernández was investment manager of their Colombian private equity portfolio. He also served as director of logistics and head of the U.S. group for Group Capiro, a major Colombian-based flower exporter.
Mr. Fernández served as Colombia’s Minister of Agriculture and is a former member of the Colombian National Security Council and of the National Council of Free Trade Zones. Previously he served as Colombia’s Delegated Minister of Commerce, lead negotiator in the development of free-trade agreements with Canada and the European Union, as chairman of the board of the Fund for the Financing of the Agricultural Sector (Finagro) of Banco Agrario de Colombia and of the National Livestock Fund, and as principal member of the National Coffee Growers Association. He has represented Colombia in multiple international bodies.
He received a degree in agricultural and livestock business administration from La Salle University in Medellín. Mr. Fernández speaks fluent English in addition to his native Spanish.
